Aurora Barrett is an English artist specialising in hand stitching her drawings
and poetry onto textiles. Her work fuses together themes from the past and present,
amalgamating the reality - and often pain -
of our memories with more fantastical narratives, narratives of hope centred around love.
Her work is light and playful. There is a nostalgia attached to it,
one that embraces the freedom often felt in childhood.
The meaning extends beyond what she places on her canvas to
the canvas itself, often choosing fabrics that hold history and stories of their own.
An avid collector of vintage and antiques since her teens,
Aurora completed her studies in Costume design and after
spending time working within the theatre world, decided to
open her own vintage shop in 2016 whilst focusing her creative practice within writing and music.
Pining for home Aurora retraced her steps back to the seaside. In 2023
she gave birth to her first child and with this new leaf of creativity
her art practice has returned with full force to its roots within textiles.
